This week, our CEO, Brad Dempsey, is joined by Brad Malone, Partner at Navigate Management Consulting, to talk about change management and ERP implementations.

More specifically, how do integrators know when they are ready for all the change that will happen as part of an ERP implementation?

Without a doubt, a successful implementation requires a readiness and a willingness to change, on the part of the entire team.

How do resistance and unwillingness to change drive the outcome of an ERP implementation?

“We speak with a lot of integrators who think they’re ready for all the change that will be necessary to embrace new ERP software,” Dempsey reports. “But most are not ready, and they don’t know it.”

“We talk to integrators about the fact that there will be process change, there will be culture change and it’s really a big, big step to undertake an ERP implementation,” says Dempsey.

How do you determine when an integrator is truly ready for an ERP implementation?

“I always look at the owner,” says Malone. “Do they really just want the same thing they have now repackaged? And if they do, it’s not going to work.”

“And integrators also have to consider the special people in their company,” says Malone. “Are they going to allow people to do end runs and let them mess with the process? Because if there are already people who mess with the process, even though it’s ‘standard,’ you are making room for exceptions. And if your process is by exception only, I don’t recommend spending more money on a tool you won’t use.”
